MAX-iR™ FTIR Gas Analyser

Real-Time Multi-Component Gas Analysis with Ultra-Low Detection Limits

The Thermo Scientific™ MAX-iR™ FTIR Gas Analyser delivers continuous, real-time gas analysis for demanding industrial and environmental applications. Using advanced Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, the analyser simultaneously measures dozens of gas components with exceptional sensitivity, making it an ideal solution for process monitoring, gas purity verification, emissions monitoring and research applications.

Unlike conventional techniques that require multiple analysers or lengthy laboratory analysis, the MAX-iR provides immediate results with detection limits down to the low ppb range—and even ppt levels when equipped with StarBoost™ optical enhancement technology.

Key Benefits

  • Simultaneous analysis of multiple gas components
  • Real-time measurements from 1 second to 1 minute
  • Detection limits from ppm to single-digit ppb and even ppt
  • No chromatographic separation required
  • Long-life VCSEL laser and SiC infrared source
  • Non-hygroscopic optics requiring no continuous purge
  • Excellent long-term stability
  • Minimal maintenance requirements
  • Standard 19″ rack-mount configuration
  • Suitable for automated process control systems

Advanced FTIR Technology

The MAX-iR uses high-performance FTIR spectroscopy combined with advanced analytical software to identify and quantify multiple compounds simultaneously. FTIR provides:

  • Immediate analysis without chromatographic run times
  • Simultaneous measurement of many compounds
  • Continuous online monitoring
  • Excellent repeatability
  • Reduced operating costs

MAX-iR can be combined with CompactGC4.0 in a small footprint 19″ cabinet, offering a strong combi for measuring a large range of components at low ppm-ppb level. For instance for CCUS (Carbon Capture & Utilisation Storage)

Applications

The MAX-iR is widely used wherever rapid, continuous gas analysis is essential.

Process Monitoring

Monitor chemical reactions in real time, optimise production processes and detect process deviations immediately.

Gas Purity Analysis

Verify ultra-high purity gases including hydrogen, nitrogen and argon by measuring trace contaminants at extremely low concentrations.

Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEMS)

Measure regulated emissions directly from industrial processes with fast response and high sensitivity.

Environmental Monitoring

Monitor ambient air quality, greenhouse gases and hazardous compounds in research and environmental applications.

Leak Detection

Detect small leaks before they become safety or environmental issues through continuous online monitoring.

Product Quality Control

Verify product gas composition during production without waiting for laboratory analysis.

Typical Measured Components

Depending on the application and calibration library, the MAX-iR can measure a wide range of compounds simultaneously, including:

  • CO
  • CO₂
  • CH₄
  • H₂O
  • NH₃
  • NO
  • NO₂
  • SO₂
  • N₂O
  • HCl
  • HF
  • VOCs
  • Numerous additional organic and inorganic gases
