Highly Accurate Verified Hydrocarbon Analysis Using GC-VUV
Detailed Hydrocarbon Analysis (DHA) is a critical tool for characterising petroleum products, blend stocks and biofuels. Traditional DHA methods based on GC-FID often require complex chromatographic separation, long analysis times and extensive manual data review to resolve co-eluting components.
The GAS Verified Hydrocarbon Analysis (VHA) solution using GC-VUV provides a highly improved alternative to conventional DHA. Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) absorbance spectra enable reliable identification and quantification of individual hydrocarbons and compound classes, even in cases of chromatographic co-elution. The analyser complies with ASTM D8369 and delivers DHA-level speciation with higher accuracy, reduced labour and significantly shorter analysis times.
Applications
- Supported method: ASTM D8369
- Detailed Hydrocarbon Analysis (DHA)
Identify and quantify individual hydrocarbons and compound classes with final boiling points up to 225 °C.
- PIONA Group Type Reporting
Automated reporting of paraffins, iso-paraffins, olefins, naphthenes, aromatics and oxygenates.
- Gasoline and Blend Stock Analysis
Analyse naphthas, reformates, alkylates, FCC gasoline and finished fuels.
- Biofuels and Oxygenated Fuels
Analyse fuels containing methanol, ethanol, MTBE, ETBE, TAME and other oxygenates.
- Refinery and R&D Laboratories
Perform advanced hydrocarbon characterisation with reduced analysis time and simplified workflows.
Benefits
- Superior alternative to classic DHA
Less prone to error thanks to component identification by VUV spectra, instead of FID (retention time only) - Replaces multiple existing traditional DHA methods
One methods replaces classical DHA methods D6729, D6730, D6733, ASTM D5134. - Up to 700 Identified Components
Full characterisation of PIONA groups, up to 700 individual components - Faster Analysis Time
Complete VHA analysis in approximately 45 minutes versus several hours for traditional DHA.
- No time consuming manual data review
Automated 2-3 minutes review time in contrast to manual >30 minutes (DHA). - Improved Accuracy and Reliability
Spectral deconvolution enables robust identification of co-eluting compounds with minimal manual review.
